First-grader Rory Clark, of Morgantown, set a goal to sell cookies to customers in all 50 states in the United States. And get this -- she's already met her goal, according to a news release from the Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council.
The Daisy Girl Scout used social media and her online cookie website to make sales from California to New York and Hawaii to Alaska.
Using a map for motivation, Rory colored in states as she made sales in each one.
“You should always set a goal to see if you can actually do it,” the 7-year-old entrepreneur said in the news release. “To hit that goal, I think it was really cool and I was so excited to get the whole map. It really made my day.”
Rory said she was inspired to sell in all 50 states after a school project that involved exchanging postcards from other states. The goal for the project was to receive a postcard from all 50 states.
The girl's mother, Becca Fint-Clark, said her family is very proud of her accomplishment.
“We weren't sure if it could be accomplished but thought it would be a fun way for her to learn more about U.S. geography,” Fint-Clark said.
Troop Leader Tara Hilleary said Rory’s friends and family ordered through her digital cookie site and that enabled her to sell to people all around the country. Rory got to talk to her customers not just about cookies, but her love for Girl Scouts.
Proceeds from the cookie sales will remain local, the news release said.
“Rory said after she colored in the last state that she was done selling and now ready to do the really fun part: delivering,” Fint-Clark said. “I had to make it clear that we were not delivering to all 50 states.”
